Heather Hamilton, PhD, LMHC, NCC
The author and founder Heather Hamilton, practices primarily in Fairhaven (Bellingham), Washington. She is a member of the American Counseling Association as well as the American Psychological Association, National Board of Certified Counselors, and NAADAC. Heather began her career in mental health with the prestigious Talbott Recovery Center in Atlanta where she specialized in the treatment of mood, personality, and addictive disorders. Since relocating to the West Coast to complete her PhD in clinical psychology, she has worked with primary care providers to develop comprehensive programs for adults and adolescents struggling with mental health issues and weight management.
Background
Heather is a former airline pilot and director of airline training, fleet acquisition, and safety programs. She is passionate about research and developing practical approaches to challenging problems. She graduated Flint School at 15 and spent 5 years running fishing boats in Alaska before going to college to become a pilot. Her Bachelor’s degree is in Aeronautical Science and she holds 2 Masters of Science degrees in Psychology and Mental Health Counseling as well as a PhD in clinical Psychology.
Away from work, Heather shares that her Inner Child (who seems oddly fond of magenta) happily manages (or hijacks) her life. Almost year-round she can be found sailing, crabbing, and beach-combing with her family and dogs in the San Juan Islands.
